New to the whole "lightening hair" thing, please help me with some questions!?!?

I wish to dye my hair pink, but currently, my hair is a strawberry blonde color. I tried using a platinum blonde hairdye for my hair, but it's still too gold. Now, i've been told by a friend to use bleach, but I don't know which level, or how long to keep it in. I understand that bleach is damaging to hair so I plan to bleach it in shifts every 3 days, is that okay? What products should I use, and what store carries them? I live nearby a sally beauty supply, so is that a good place to go to? Please respond quickly, but I would appreciate it if you didn't try to convince me to not bleach it, or to go to a salon.

no sweetie

bleach it all at once

what i do is ..

i use jerome russle bleach powder , its a blue bleach which works better.

it comes in little packs so you get the right amount.

mix one sachet with a 75ml of 40 percent developer for a better result

apply it to the tips and the main section of the hair first and leave for ten mins, then do the roots. leave for a further 10 mins if you need to leave it on for a further ten after that , this is ok,

wash it out and make sure you get it all!!!!!

after that i use a product alled fudge dynamite, rub it into damp hair and leave for 40 mins wrap your hair in a wet towel while you do this then wash off.

it leaves your hair in a great condition and makes it shine too!

then wait for a week if you can

and then run the pink dye thru it!

good luck and hope you love your new hair!!!!!!!!!!

Go to Sally's and talk with someone there. They should be able to tell you how soon you can bleach and what you need to do this.

Bleach...in shifts? You can only bleach ONCE. Continued applications will break out your hair.

The hair color only lifted your hair a few levels, that's why you're still gold.

The bleach will lift you up to four more levels (which is likely too much). I've no clue what color your hair is, so I can't tell you how long to leave on the bleach. ION makes a good lightener, but you may do better with the purple packet of Kaleidocolors (found at Sallys) to get the gold out of your hair. You'll need 30 or 40 volume peroxide as well, a plastic bowl, and a color brush (get it all at Sally's, you can't use metal bowls).

Everyone's hair is different, so keep a close eye on the bleach. You'll need a friend or a mother to apply the bleach all over and evenly and to watch how far you've progressed. DON'T PROCESS TO WHITE BLONDE. Once you've gotten that far, your hair is ruined until it grows out. It won't hold color any more.

Remember there's going to be a lot of upkeep to pink hair, then after the pink has faded in a few weeks, the upkeep of the blonde. You'll have to have retouches every 4-6 weeks to keep roots at bay. You'll need to do a protein treatment every other week (again, ION makes one in packets for a few dollars at Sallys), back off the blow dryer and flat iron and if you insist on using them frequently, make sure to use thermal sprays and something like CHI Silk Infusion or Silk Therapy.

The safest thing to do when working with bleach is to go to a salon, but since you don't want that advice ;) I will suggest you use a 20-30 volume peroxide with the bleach. You need to work quickly while putting it on. Start in the back of your head, a half inch away from your scalp, continue this way to the front. Once you finished this step, apply it to your scalp. Now you will have to watch your hair to see how light it is getting. If you haven't achieved the lightness you are going for in 30 min. you should wash it off and repeat the process in a few days.

Good luck!

well you could go to Sally's and buy a strawberry blonde toner

you say you heard bleaching damages you hair, well that is right, but depending on how its done,if you are going to bleach it over three days you will end up with an over processed ball of cotton wool, and it will be badly damaged

I own my own salon, and what I would do is to bleach it plat blonde one time only then apply the strawberry blonde toner

that's what a salon would do as well, and I am being totally honest with you, and also get a friend to help you, and pay strict attention to the instructions especially the time on your head bleaching wise, then there is now reason whatsoever why you cannot have lovely strawberry blonde hair oh and a very good conditioner as well, best of luck and let me know if you run into any trouble

sallys is a fantastic place to shop and the staff in there can advise you on what to buy, you may not have to use bleach that totally depends on how much red tones there is in your hair. whatever you do, do not bleach you hair more than once (and certainly not every three days) if you do this it will burn your hair until you look like a scare crow you should be resting your hair for six weeks in between colouring.

Hope this helps.

not sure why bleaching it in stages is any different from doing it all in one go im a hairdresser and there is no difference sorry, but as your hair is light from other colouring you can use a lower peroxide 9% should be fine this will do less damage as it isnt a strong but no less as they will no work, but can i ask what has this got to do with going pink if you think you have to bleach it up to make it work thats not the case as your already blonde pink will still take if you was dark then it has to be bleached.

you can go to sallys they will also help and advise you but just becarefull putting bleach all over and on scalp can cause blistering and burns and also make hair fall out at roots this is worse case but it could happen to you just want you to be very sure as i said to go pink dont need to bleach it.

hope i have helped you
