How can you make hair dye stay in longer?

I dyed my hair semi-permanent pink ( I bleached it first) and it washed out really quickly. Any ideas other than using protective shampoo that would help the colour stay in longer??

Either switch to permanent color or don't shampoo every day. Also, if you swim in a pool the chlorine takes out the color.

Dont use a strong shampoo, use one for evey day use.

Also, leave the colour in as long as you can, over an hour if it's the bright pink in a little pot! I used to be a punk and would sometime not wash the colour out all day!

use a permanent hair dye.

Don't wash it often. Some people wash it once a week. You can use dry shampoo from Sally's. And if you must wash, rinse with cold water, and don't use heat styling, and put a bit of the dye in your shampoo...that's all I can think of now....http://haircrazy.info has some tips, too, and so does manicpanic.com.

And you can't switch to permanent dye, because crazy dye doesn't come in permanent, to all those people who said that.

Try something from Loreal's shampoo for Dyed Hair. It might help.

You can get shampoo's that have colour in them. I'm sure somewhere, maybe if you contact 'Fudge' they might know, for something that's not the typical brown, blonde etc.

And I"m sure I've heard of something that you spray in your hair before you wash it, too keep the colour in. I just can't remember the name!

How can you make hair dye stay in longer?

use the same color shampoo for dyed hair

How can you make hair dye stay in longer?

I heard somewhere that anti-dandruff shampoo strips out hair dye more quickly than others. Don't know if it is true, or if you use it, but I thought I'd mention it just in case!

Hi,

Any ideas other than using protective shampoo that would help the colour stay in longer??

Color either grows out, fades out or simply gets washed out.

Although you may want to try this.

Hi, Sounds like your hairs porosity may be shot, If your bleaching your hair often and not knowing how dark your hair is and what peroxide or developer level your using.

Use your bleach with 20Vol or 6% or developer level.

Only leave on 20 to 25 minutes at a time. Rinse gentle and don閳ユ獩 rub the scalp or hair to hard be gentle with it.

If hair is dark you may need to re bleach it just follow these instructions again.

Only leave on 20 to 25 minutes at a time. Rinse gentle and don閳ユ獩 rub the scalp or hair to hard be gentle with it.

As for you using a (semi-permanent pink) it will wash out quickly I閳ユ獓 move to a tint and either find or get your self a hair colourist try using concentrate tints or pigment colour and mix it with 3% or 1.5vol, 5% or 5vol you may even try 10% or 10vol peroxide or developer level it depends on how dry and your hairs porosity.

Leave on for 30 to 45mins only and gently rinse out by emulsifying (just add a little warm water and work it up and out) till all color is out.

Now wrap your hair with a towel and DON閳ユ┏ RUB, rubbing is Frictions which breaks your hair shaft.

Also the week after you get it colored get a good hair treatment and do it regular.

Good Luck

if its a permanant colour then i dont think you can make it last longer

i had pink hair, dont shampoo it just rinse and condition it, that way it lasts longer.

red and pink do fade out... if you used semi permanent it wont even last that long, you can easly re-dye your hair with another color. i'd sugest a medium dark pink to start off with, becuz its going to fade sometime. I'd use color safe shampoo.. shampooing every other day if possible. I'd start off with buying yourself some new dye, i'd suggest BEYOND ZONE PRO FORMULA COLOR JAM... you can buy this at sallys for around 6 dollars.. its semi also.. but i've used it and seems to last for weeks... you should keep this in your hair for maybe 2 hours and blow dry it, despite what the back says. dont comb your hair or anything, just use the heat to help seal the color in... wash it out and try not to wash it wish hot hot water... lukewarmish is good...

If you haven't used it and plan on doing a touch up for you hair, I recommend that you use Special Effects Atomic Pink. I've never heard of a person's Atomic Pink hair fading rapidly. In fact, all I've heard about it is that it lasts for several weeks up to several months (as much as 7 weeks and longer). If you dyed your hair Special Effects Cupcake Pink, a Manic Panic color, or basically any other dye, it would explain why it faded so quickly.

You should also leave the dye in for at least an hour or more (I think the packaging will say something like 15 minutes but leaving it in for a few hours will make the dye more vibrant and longer lasting).

So anyway, once you dye your hair Atomic Pink (which I obviously highly recommend!!), or another pink color, try not to do damaging things to it. If you straighten your hair or blow dye it, try to cut down on that. Heat opens up the hair's pores causing color to fade faster. If you need to blow dry your hair, try putting it on medium heat and then when it is slightly damp put it on cold and use that temperature until your hair is fully dry. If you need to straighten your hair I suggest you do it every other day or every two days.

Stay away from baby shampoo. It's recommended for bleached hair because it goes easy on it, but it has an unbalanced PH which causes hair dye to fade quickly. I made the mistake of using it when I dyed my hair red.

Leave conditioner in for 10-15 minutes. Conditioner helps to lock in the hair color. Also, you can mix a bit of dye in with the conditioner to help touch up the hair dye on a daily basis.

Try to avoid exposing your hair to excessive sunlight. It will cause your hair color to fade faster. If you go for walks when it's sunny out, I suggest you wear a hat to protect your hair.

Don't go swimming in chlorinated pools - it can mess up your hair color and also cause it to fade.

When you shower, try wetting your hair in cold water, washing it with some protective shampoo, adding the conditioner and then covering your hair with a shower cap. For the remainder of the shower put the temperature of the water back to normal. At the end of the shower, wash the conditioner out of your hair with the water switched back to cold. Washing your hair in cold water will help the color last longer. Like I said before, heat causes color to fade faster and this includes hot and even warm water.

considering it is semi-permanent will mean that no peroxide (developer) will of been provided with the product so the colour wouldn't of been carried into the hair shaft so all you wil need to do is next time you use the colour mix in 1/3 ratio of 20vol peroxide (developer) with the pink and this will carry the colour into the hair shaft making it last longer. usually most "punky" colours are not created to be permanent as most people wouldn't want the "punky" colours permanently.
